Down to the Volcano

June 21, 2013

A science and engineering team led by the University of Washington is on a multi-year mission, funded by the National Science Foundation, to build an advanced deep ocean laboratory – on the edge of an active submarine volcano, over a mile below the surface. What these scientists find in the deep ocean may someday help the way we live on land. Follow along as researchers visit a 5000 foot tall mountain at the bottom of the ocean and begin to set up the technology that can capture eruptions in real-time.
